💡 Summary: Day 2 of our Pocheon trip (after a caravan night stay), we visited Herb Island with our 8-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter. Admission: 12,000 KRW/person. Rides sold separately as Big3·Big4 packages (no unlimited pass). Top hits: pink sand beach, dinosaur exhibits, merry-go-round, and dino-shaped slushies! Sky Pink Sand Beach — The Kids' Absolute Favorite
The undisputed highlight of Herb Island is the Sky Pink Sand Beach. The entire hillside is covered in pink-tinted sand, flanked by rows of pink trees — an utterly surreal and Instagram-worthy scene. Our kids bolted in the moment they saw it.
Honest note: the sledding here doesn't go very fast. The slope exists but the sand creates a lot of friction. That said, the kids absolutely loved running, rolling, and simply being in the sea of pink. Our 5-year-old struggled with the climb to the top, so we carried her up — worth knowing if you have young children.
Dinosaur Exhibit & Dino Egg Photo Spots — Kids' Photo Corner #1
The dinosaur zone features life-size dinosaur models, a cracked-egg structure kids can climb inside, and a dinosaur-mouth slide for photos. Our two kept crawling in and out of the dinosaur egg again and again, and posing inside the dinosaur's mouth. The smiles in the photos say everything.
Rides — Big3·Big4 Package: Worth It?
Herb Island offers rides including a merry-go-round, butterfly swings, and a mini excavator. There is no unlimited pass — you choose a Big3 or Big4 package, picking 3 or 4 attractions with one ride each. If your child wants to repeat a ride, additional payment is required, which was our one complaint.
Our kids loved the merry-go-round and butterfly swings most. The 8-year-old was grinning non-stop on the swings, and our 5-year-old sat regally on her merry-go-round horse. The pink mini excavator is a great photo op too, with the pink herb garden field as a backdrop.
Dino-Shaped Slushies — Best Food Item in the Park
After all that running around, the kids recharged with dino-character slushies — tubes of frozen juice topped with an adorable dinosaur straw topper. Our kids refused to let go of those straws even after finishing. A must-buy photo prop that doubles as a refreshment. Highly recommended regardless of the season.
Herb Greenhouse & Photo Zones — Adult Relaxation Spots
While the kids tackle rides, adults can enjoy the lush herb greenhouse — a glass-roofed space filled with aromatic herbs and plants. Strolling through it feels genuinely restorative. Outside, colorful umbrella canopies line a path, and a fairy-light tunnel wound through tree branches makes for a magical walkway — especially at night.
DIY Soap Making — Ages 8+ Recommended
We chose soap making from the DIY workshop options. It involves melting a soap base with heat and pouring into molds, so it's officially recommended for ages 8+. Our 5-year-old joined in by choosing colors and adding decorative beads. The finished soaps come packaged to take home — a great souvenir the kids actually use.
Viewpoint — Mountain Views from the Boulder
A little further into the park, you'll reach a rocky viewpoint with sweeping views of the Pocheon mountains. The siblings sat side by side on a large boulder — the mountains framing them perfectly. It was one of my favorite shots of the whole trip. A peaceful spot to slow down and breathe it all in.
FAQ
Q. How much is Herb Island admission?
A. Adult admission is 12,000 KRW. Children and senior rates differ — check the official website. Rides (Big3·Big4 packages) and DIY experiences cost extra.
Q. Is it suitable for children under 5?
A. Yes! The pink sand beach, dinosaur photo spots, and merry-go-round are all suitable for young children. There's a nursing room and stroller rental on-site. Just note that the climb up the pink sand hill is steep for toddlers — be prepared to carry them.
Q. What time is best to visit for the night lights?
A. Herb Island is famous for its night illuminations. In summer, arrive after 7 PM to see the fairy-light tunnel and lit-up gardens. With young kids, consider visiting in the daytime and staying until evening, or planning the night visit separately as an adult outing.
Q. Can we combine it with a Pocheon caravan stay?
A. Absolutely recommended! We paired it with a night at The Classic Caravan in Pocheon (see Part 1), and the combo made for a perfect 1-night 2-day itinerary. Herb Island is large enough to fill a full day.
