Geomdan New Town Restaurant | Kimsusung — 2cm Aged Pork Belly, Our 6-Year-Old Loved It

Geomdan New Town Restaurant | Kimsusung — 2cm Aged Pork Belly, Our 6-Year-Old Loved It

💡 TL;DR — An aged pork BBQ restaurant in Geomdan's Ara-dong. We ordered the Kimsusung Special 2 (550g pork belly, serves 2) and were surprised by the 2cm thickness. Staff grilled everything for us, so we could focus on eating and watching our 6-year-old. The marinated crab rice (yangnyeom gejang bap) was outstanding — don't miss it. Weekdays open from 17:00 only, no lunch.

Menu Review

The Kimsusung Special 2 (aged pork belly, 550g) was the star of the meal. The 2cm-thick slices were juicy and chewy with the deep umami of properly aged meat. The side spread was generous: perilla leaf, cabbage kimchi, green onion kimchi, marinated soy crab, salt, soybean paste, and pickled shiitake mushroom. Staff grilled everything — including adding vegetables and minari (water parsley) to the grill — making the whole experience easy and enjoyable.

Marinated Crab Rice — Strongly Recommended

The yangnyeom gejang bap (marinated soy crab over rice) was the real highlight. The visual alone is mouthwatering, and the flavor lives up to it. We didn't leave a single grain of rice in the bowl. If you're ordering just one extra dish, make it this one.

Family-Friendly Details

Our 6-year-old had no trouble enjoying the mild, chewy pork. Since staff grill everything, parents don't have to juggle grilling and childcare at the same time. The steamed egg (gyeran jjim) is a great side for kids. The self-service fried rice at the end — shaped into a heart by the staff — was a fun finish.

Honest Downsides

A few things to note: weekday hours start at 17:00, so lunch visits aren't possible Monday through Friday. Also, the food is so good it's easy to over-order — expect the bill to climb with extra cuts and side dishes. Finally, indoor parking can get crowded; check availability in advance.
