How to Play — Simple Rules, Deep Strategy

Each turn, players choose one of two actions:

  • Draw 2 soldier tiles from the supply

  • Place a soldier tile on a connected territory on the board

To place a soldier, every territory between your base and the target must already be occupied by your soldiers. You can stack onto an opponent's territory only if your soldier's power value is higher. Win by controlling all territories linked to the opponent's base, or by collecting a set number of medal tokens.

How My Kid Reacted

Honestly, I wasn't sure my son would stick with it — he's usually glued to his phone. But the moment the rules explanation ended, he said, 'Again!' And by the third game, he was already asking 'Dad, if I go this way, can you block me?' That strategic thinking surprised me.

Strategy & Brain Development

Boy thinking hard about his next move in Toy Battle

Each of the 3 maps has a different territory layout, so the same strategy won't always work. The 8 soldier types each have unique abilities, so knowing when to deploy which soldier adds a real layer of tactical depth — even for kids.

Honest Downsides

  • Tiny star tokens with no spares: The territory tokens are very small and there are exactly as many as needed — lose even one and the game becomes unplayable. Extra tokens in the box would be a huge improvement.

  • Competitive kids need a handicap: Adults playing seriously will outmaneuver kids easily. Let them win early and gradually raise the challenge — it keeps the fun going.

  • Strictly 2 players: If you have more than one child, someone has to wait. Take turns in rounds.

Q. Can more than 2 players join?

A. No — Toy Battle is strictly 2-player. Families with multiple kids can rotate opponents between rounds.

A. Yes — 3 maps × 8 soldier types create enough variety that every game feels different. We haven't gotten tired of it.

Q. Is it good as a gift?

A. Absolutely. The 2026 Golden Ace Award gives it credibility, the box looks great, and it's a thoughtful gift for any kid who likes thinking games.

Q. What if we lose a star token?

A. Contact Korea Boardgames customer service about spare parts. In the meantime, the best prevention is putting every token back in the box the moment the game ends.
