The Story — Spoiler-Free
On January 29, 2024, six-year-old Hind Rajab, fleeing with her family in Gaza, becomes the sole survivor after their car is attacked. She calls the Palestinian Red Crescent dispatch center. "Please come and save me." The dispatchers try to send an ambulance, but they need Israeli military clearance. The destination is only eight minutes away. Yet as hours pass, no one can reach her.
Send the ambulance and the paramedics could be killed. Don't send it and the child dies. The film unfolds this unbearable dilemma within the confines of a single call center for 89 minutes. The ambulance crew that finally went — two paramedics — and Hind herself were all later found dead.
A Christian Parent's Reflection
As a Christian raising children, this was more than a war film. Hearing a girl the same age as mine whisper "I'm scared, please come" from among her family's bodies struck a different chord entirely.
Jesus said, "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40). Hind's voice brought this verse to life. Regardless of political stance, what happened to this child happened to a life loved by God.
The dispatcher Omar comforting Hind over the phone felt like a prayer — when all you have is your voice and the outcome is beyond your control. The psalmist's cry echoed throughout: "How long, O Lord?" (Psalm 13:1). This film compels you to wrestle with God's justice in the face of a suffering child.
