Incheon Seo-gu Restaurant | Hankultong — Tender Monkfish Stew at an Unbeatable Price

Incheon Seo-gu Restaurant | Hankultong — Tender Monkfish Stew at an Unbeatable Price

💡 TL;DR — Hankultong is a monkfish (agujjim) and cutlassfish (kodari) stew restaurant in Incheon's Seo-gu district. A medium-size stew is 23,000 KRW — genuinely good value in today's Korea. Four spice levels let families with young kids choose mild. The monkfish flesh is tender and silky, especially when dipped in wasabi soy sauce. Dongchimi (water kimchi) and sundubu (soft tofu) are included as complimentary sides. Public parking is steps away.

Sides & Set-Up

The set of complimentary sides is impressive: dongchimi (iced water kimchi), baek kimchi (white kimchi), sundubu (soft tofu), radish pickles, and a salad. Icy dongchimi in particular whetted our appetite before the main event arrived.

Main Dish: Monkfish Stew (Agujjim)

We ordered the agujjim (monkfish stew) in medium. The vibrant red color and steaming broth are genuinely appetite-inducing. The monkfish flesh was incredibly tender — it nearly melted off the bones. Dipped in wasabi soy sauce, it transforms into something unexpectedly elegant: the creamy fish + sharp wasabi is a combination I'll think about for a while.

Finish with Fried Rice

After finishing the fish, we added fried rice stirred into the leftover stew sauce. The spicy-sweet monkfish broth permeated every grain — even the slightly caramelized bits at the bottom of the pot were worth scraping up.
